8 LinkedIn Post Ideas to Engage and Grow Your Audience

blog

Feeling stuck on what to post on LinkedIn? You’re not alone.

One of the most common challenges I hear from clients is deciding what kind of content to share to make an impact.

Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your approach, understanding the types of posts that work on LinkedIn can make all the difference.

The key to LinkedIn success is variety.

By mixing up the types of content you share, you can keep your audience engaged, highlight your expertise, and make your presence memorable.

The Silent Community

First, let’s talk about LinkedIn’s silent community. Not everyone who views your posts will like or comment, but that doesn’t mean they’re not paying attention.

One of my clients, Laurna Munro, shared this insight after completing my online LinkedIn course: "When I look at the change to the analytics on my posts since doing the course, it’s clear that her approach does improve engagement." This is a perfect example of why consistency and persistence matter. Keep showing up—even when engagement seems low—because the right people are watching, even if they’re not interacting.

8 Types of LinkedIn Content to Keep Your Audience Engaged

To make LinkedIn work for you, it’s important to use a variety of content types.

Here are eight ways to engage your audience:

  1. Text-Only Posts: Perfect for sharing quick insights or personal reflections. Start with a compelling “hook” in the first three lines to draw readers in. For example: “Here’s the one thing I wish I knew when I started on LinkedIn.”
  2. Single Image Posts: Share a photo and a story. Authentic, personal images (even selfies!) often perform better than overly polished visuals. People want to see you.
  3. Multiple Image Posts: Showcase events, workshops, or behind-the-scenes moments with a series of photos. Tagging people or organisations involved can help expand your reach.
  4. Polls: Use LinkedIn polls sparingly (every 4–6 weeks) to ask meaningful questions that relate to your audience. For example, “What’s your biggest challenge when it comes to LinkedIn?”
  5. Video Content: Video allows your audience to see and hear you, helping them connect more personally. Keep videos short (1–1.5 minutes), add captions, and use good lighting.
  6. Carousel Posts: Upload a PDF as a document to create a swipeable post. These are great for sharing tips, insights, or a step-by-step process in a visual way.
  7. Articles: Longer-form content lets you explore a topic in depth. Repurpose your blog posts or write original articles to establish thought leadership.
  8. Newsletters: If you have a regular newsletter, LinkedIn offers a feature to share it directly on the platform. It’s a great way to stay top-of-mind with your audience.

Building Your Puzzle Piece by Piece

Think of your LinkedIn content as a puzzle. Every post you share is another piece, helping your audience see the full picture of who you are, what you do, and the value you bring.

It’s not about creating a single “viral” post but about showing up consistently to build trust and credibility over time. As one client, Chris Duggan, said: "Leeann knows her stuff and helped me progress significantly in my LinkedIn journey."
