5 Reasons Your Business Needs to Be on Social Media
Does the thought of using social media for your business make you cringe?
Do you have a range of social media platforms set up for your business that are now languishing with no content and forgotten passwords?
As a small business owner are you wondering where you find the time (or extra resources) to be on social media enough to make it worthwhile?
If the answer to all those questions is yes, then I’m here to tell you that you need to think again. There are plenty of good reasons for getting your small or medium sized business on social media.
Let’s look at some of them and how you can maximise the potential.
5 Reasons Your Business Needs To Be On Social Media
1: Lots Of People Use It
These days, most people use at least one social media channel. And lots of those people will use social media all the time. For some people, with the ability to search various forms of content, see reviews on business pages, ask for recommendations in local groups and message brands directly, social has effectively replaced more traditional search options like Google and business websites. So, that means if you aren’t on the social platforms where your potential customers are, you might be missing out on crucial business!
2: Your Competitors Will Be Doing It
All those people using social media that we’ve just mentioned? Chances are at least one of your competitors is out there posting up a storm on those social media platforms. That means they could be capturing your potential customers. While I wouldn’t normally advise you to do something just because everybody else is doing it (think of your Mum asking if you’d jump off a bridge just because everyone else was doing it), this is one of those instances when you should. Be on socials I mean, not the bridge thing!
Basically, if you want to compete and attract those customers to your business, you need to be on socials too.
3: It Helps You Build Relationships
Many people are cautious about buying these days. They consider brands carefully and often want to know that they are dealing with a business that supplies what they need and fits their values.
Depending on your industry, it might take a lot of relationship-building before you actually get to that sale point. Social media can help you build your business’ identity, establish your expertise, show a bit of personality and interact with your customers to build the all-important trust every relationship needs!
4: You Learn A Lot About Your Customers
As well as building relationships, social media can be a great place to find out more about your customers. You can create polls or ask questions and analyse the responses, or look at the questions people ask or comments they make on the platform.
All of this information can help to inform new products and services or be the catalyst for changes to your products or business systems. Being well informed helps you to serve your customers better.
5: It Can Actually Be Kinda Fun
You might not believe us, but when you get it right and fall into a rhythm, social media can actually be fun. It’s a chance to be a little bit more relaxed and interact with your customers. The trick is to go into with a plan so that you feel less overwhelmed and can maximise the return on any opportunities that may arise.
